Watch ExxonMobil Whistleblower Lindsey Gulden speak at National Whistleblower Center’s 2024 National Whistleblower Day celebration on Capitol Hill. Lindsey Gulden is a climate and data scientist who, along with her co-worker Damien Burch, blew the whistle in 2019 on over 10 billion dollars worth of fraud at ExxonMobil after discovering the deliberate overvaluation of an oil and gas asset in the Permian Basin. In her speech, Lindsey discusses the fraud she uncovered at ExxonMobil and the retaliation she faced after coming forward. In order to appeal to investors, ExxonMobil exaggerated the value of their oil asset, claiming that exponentially increasing drilling speeds would increase the asset’s worth over time. Gulden and Burch were 2 of roughly 200 people who knew about the fraud. She and Burch filed their whistleblower complaints internally, but their complaints were ignored and were both subsequently fired. Lindsey is currently fighting her wrongful termination case under the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Act. She is currently working to accelerate the energy transition and combat climate disinformation.
